I can’t believe it’s been my FOURTH year participating in this greeting card challenge! #30cards30days is hosted by @cindyyshaw, and consists of a list of 30 prompts to inspire greeting card designs for each day of August. Here are the prompts for 2025:

I feel like this endeavor is truly challenging, because not only are you drawing based off a prompt, but there’s the extra layers of interpreting the prompt (can be taken in multiple ways, with different meanings) and then making that idea into a card design with a certain message or use case. But each year that I’ve done this challenge, I’ve come away with new card designs that have become some of my bestsellers! In fact, I have come up with very few new designs in the last several years outside of the August challenge – which is why I have come to think of it as my annual greeting card boot camp where I crank out a bunch of new stuff.

Last year, I had trouble completing the challenge daily and would miss some days, then try to make up for it by combining two prompts on the following day. This year, I added to my work load by simultaneously participating in another daily challenge called Doggust (drawing a different breed of dog each day from a list for 30 days) – but to my own amazement, I somehow was able to complete both challenges every day for the full month. Truly was prepared to make peace with skipping a lot of days, so for that I’m really of proud of myself!

I’ve always aspired to maintain a daily sketchbook habit, to draw every day for play and not for work. I think this month has been a good exercise of making time for drawing every day, and I can only hope that I carry on the habit after the challenges end.

As far as improvements for next year, I hope to make a bigger variety of background mockups instead of cycling through the same 5 over and over again. Haha.
